I remember the fun times and how I made you laugh I never let your sadness hold you down I would ask you every day how I could make you smile And that alone was enough. I think of the days we were together Our story was poetry every line Never written or heard by others We knew that it didn’t matter. I focus on the day I first told you I loved you Your silence was stunning Words that fell from me with relative ease Are harder to believe than hear When I say I love you, I’m not trying to fill an empty bucket To make it look full When I say I love you, Know that my bucket is already full And the words are too heavy

They say They say they love me They say they care about me They say they want the best for me I believed them I gave them my trust I sold out my respect Just to have something others die to protect   They say I can be anything They say all I need is education They say all I need is God And wanted that to be true, so   I went to their schools I went to their churches I learned from their mistakes I worshiped their god Look where I am No respect of my own, No trust to count on, No education to share, No God to call upon.   They say that respect is earned They say trust is built They say, they say, they say   I say nothing

If I pass today, Would you meet me at my stone? Pray alone and put me under; Tear after tear, Shovel after shovel. If I go in my sleep Would you be with me tonight? Hold my head as I sing softly Let me go as it fades. If I died yesterday Would you let the wind take me? Across the sea, Free with the ocean breeze. Truth is, Stranger, I will die. You can't control it, You can't stop it. But you can be my friend. You can make it hurt less.
